Client Type: Government Authority
Region: United Arab Emirates
Sector: Public Safety, Traffic & Licensing
Organization Type: Large-Scale Public Sector Institution
The end client is a major UAE government authority responsible for public safety, traffic regulation, vehicle administration and driver licensing services.
As part of a broader digital-service modernisation programme, the authority introduced self-service kiosks to make frequently requested services more accessible and reduce reliance on staffed service counters.
Delivering government services through unattended kiosks requires more than transferring existing web forms onto a touch screen. The platform needed to support multiple sensitive, transaction-based services through simple and reliable user journeys while integrating with existing backend systems.
Through a partner-led engagement, the delivery team contributed to the development of a self-service kiosk application that enabled citizens and residents to access traffic, vehicle and driver-licensing services.
The solution used Angular 14 for the kiosk interface and .NET services for backend processing and system integration. Each service was designed as a structured, step-by-step journey optimised for touch-screen interaction.
The engagement focused on creating an accessible, consistent and reliable user experience across multiple government-service categories.
The kiosk application enabled access to the authority’s most frequently used services, including:
Traffic Services
Driver-Licensing Services
Vehicle Services
Traffic-Point Services
The engagement focused on designing and implementing kiosk-optimised interfaces and connecting the user journeys with the relevant backend services.
Key activities included:
Kiosk Application Development
Backend Service Integration
User Experience Optimisation
Quality & Reliability
Developing a kiosk-based government application presented several challenges:
Designing for Unattended Use
Users needed to complete important government procedures without staff assistance. Every screen therefore required clear instructions, visible actions and predictable navigation.
Managing Complex Service Journeys
Traffic, vehicle and licensing services involve different information, validation and transaction requirements. The application needed to accommodate these variations without creating an inconsistent user experience.
Preventing Input Errors
The kiosk workflows required structured validation and clear error handling to reduce incomplete submissions and help users correct information before proceeding.
Integrating with Existing Services
The frontend application needed to communicate consistently with .NET-based backend services while managing request processing, response handling and transaction status.
Optimising for Kiosk Hardware
Layouts, controls and navigation were designed specifically for large touch screens and public, unattended environments rather than conventional desktop or mobile use.
The application was structured around modular service components, with each component supporting a guided journey for a specific service category.
Modular Architecture
Reusable Angular components created consistency across services while allowing individual workflows to support different business requirements.
Guided User Journeys
Each transaction was divided into clear steps covering information entry, validation, confirmation and completion.
Backend Integration
.NET service endpoints managed business logic, transaction processing and communication with relevant systems.
Kiosk-Focused Interface
Custom styling and touch-friendly controls improved readability, navigation and interaction on kiosk screens.
Validation & Error Handling
Input checks, service responses and error messages helped users complete transactions accurately and understand the next required action.
Testing & Refinement
Service journeys were reviewed across supported scenarios to improve usability, consistency and operational reliability.
The engagement established a unified self-service experience across multiple traffic, vehicle and driver-licensing services.
Expanded Self-Service Access
Citizens and residents could access eligible services through guided kiosk workflows without depending entirely on staffed counters.
Consistent User Journeys
A common interaction model provided clear navigation across different service categories.
Integrated Service Processing
Angular-based interfaces connected with .NET backend services to support validation, transaction processing and status handling.
Kiosk-Optimised Experience
The interface was designed specifically for large touch screens and unattended public use.
Modular Service Foundation
The component-based structure supported the addition and refinement of service journeys without redesigning the complete application.
